This is a web version of Iron Company for people who don't have access to a device that can run the downloadable game. It seems to run better in Chrome than Firefox... unfortunately. It SHOULD work on most android devices. I don't know about iOS. The "Pre-Ramble" text at the beginning will likely not work correctly on mobile. Ideally, the final game will have mobile support, but I'm a long way off from that-- this is a sloppy stopgap for now. Sorry for... how it is! It'll be better eventually.

Here's the text of the Pre-Ramble...

PRE-RAMBLE

Hi, it's me, doodlemancy! This is an alpha (very very alpha) demo of a visual novel I will be working on for... A While. Currently, it has no sound, and the only visuals to speak of are a few rough images here and there, so it's less a visual novel and more of a text adventure, but the text wiggles. I have tried my best to describe the IMAGES and SOUND FX that would be required for proper context and enjoyment. Note that a lot of  "..." lines will be character expression changes, which you're kinda on your own imagining for now! All I've got is placeholder images in the corner so you can see what (most of) the characters you encounter look like. Basically, as you play this demo, assume that any visual you see is something that will be replaced later; I'm focusing on the novel part of the visual novel first. I highly suggest opening This Toyhouse Page in your browser so you can see more concept art."

CONTENT WARNINGS

Iron Company is intended for mature readers 17+. It contains:

-Mention & onscreen use of alcohol and tobacco, and (mostly just implied) addiction to/abuse of them.
-Blood/gore and violence (I plan to include some settings to blur or replace anything super gnarly).
-One dead deer (not currently illustrated, but integral to one scene).
-A lot of foul language.
-Frequent visitations to the topic of trauma/PTSD.
-NO jumpscares in this demo, but there will be in the final product (and I do plan to add accessibility settings for people who can't handle those).
-Vague mentions/implications of suicidal intent by some characters, here and there.
-Other horror elements. It's not really a Horror Game(TM) but horror is part of its tone."

I'M ALMOST DONE I PROMISE

A few final notes here:

(PSST: SOME OF THESE FEATURES MIGHT NOT WORK ON MOBILE)

-At any time, you may toggle the Progress Bar and Trust displays on and off using the quick menu at the bottom of the screen. The Trust stat indicates how much Sykes and Petra trust each other, and the Progress Bar shows you your approximate distance from the end of the chapter.

-At any time, you can access the menu with the ESC key to save, look at the Help page, change Preferences, etc.

-The rate at which text is delivered is part of the experience. I highly suggest not touching it, but you still can if you really want to.

-The game creates Autosaves for you at choices, but I do suggest saving periodically or using the quicksave/quickload function in the bottom bar.

-You can use PAGE UP/PAGE DOWN or scroll the mouse wheel to go back and undo choices.

-There are three endings-- High Trust, Low Trust, and a horrible little secret.

OKAY,

Have fun! Thanks so much for playing this demo, too. It seriously means a lot to see people excited about this. I hope if you have a good time, you'll let me know about it; hearing from people enjoying the thing fuels my fire! It's a long walk from where I'm at to a finished visual novel, but I'm taking some big steps here. Thanks for taking them with me!
